Below are five movies that mean a lot to me. These movies inspired something in me or brought me comfort during a difficult time. I love these films with all my heart and I hope you will love them, too!
Star Wars (1977~):

I couldn't tell you how old I was when I first saw Star Wars, but even as a young child I think I knew I was watching something amazing. It meant, and still means, so much to me. I have the action figure collection to prove it. Now that they are making more Star Wars films, I am constantly reminded of the impact the film series has had on me. Star Wars sparked so much creativity in me at a young age, it introduced me to a genre that I had never seen before. The creativity it sparked has never died out, it's seen here on this blog and in my future goals. However, the biggest impact the film series has had on me is something I have only just realized in the past year or two. Carrie Fisher and Princess Leia taught me so many important life lessons without me even knowing it was happening. She continues to teach me, even with her passing. I only wish I had found her wisdom when I was younger, I think her attitude and view on life is something we all need. I thank my lucky stars everyday that we live in a world where Star Wars exists. I only wish Carrie Fisher still existed in that world, too.
Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

This movie (and book written by Stephen Chbosky) had a huge impact on me when I was a sophomore\junior in High School and it wasn't just because of my love for Logan Lerman. The story of Charlie felt so real to me and I could see myself in him. High School sucks for most people, but it's even harder for those who struggle with mental illness. That is why this movie so important to me, each line of it connected to what I was feeling and how I was hurting. Anyone who lived through the Perks mania will remember the quotes that it spawned, most famously "we accept the love we think we deserve". However, that wasn't the only golden quote Perks gave birth to. My favorite quote, "So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.”, was probably said in my head about a million times while I was in High School. I cried reading the book, I cried watching the movie (which I think did the book justice). You never know how big an impact a good storyline and quote can have on you, or how much it can inspire you to keep going.
Sixteen Candles & Pretty in Pink (1984, 1986)

Although two different movies, I put them together because they were both coming of age films for me, and of course, John Hughes\Molly Ringwald masterpieces. I remember my mother bringing them from the library for me to watch, saying something along the lines of "it's time". She very seriously warned me about the very bad swear word Molly Ringwald says in Sixteen Candles and how I should never repeat it. Something about John Hughes's teenage dramas feel so real compared to the cheesy ones that have been made of late. I was a teenager in the later 2000s\early 2010s, life in the 80s was foreign to me, yet the story lines felt real. The messages behind them rang true no matter what decade you were or are a teenager in. Feeling forgotten, cliques, first loves, family and friend issues. These scenarios and problems resonate with us and continue to influence our lives well after High School. When I feel angsty or lost, I love putting one of these movies on and escaping into the world of Andie or Samantha. That being said, I think my mom knew what she was doing when she rented those DVDS, every teenager needs see a John Hughes film before entering the scary world of High School.
Lord of the Rings (2001-2003):
Theres the idea of comfort food, but there should also be the idea of a comfort movie. To me, that's the Lord of the Rings series. At least once a year my mom and I binge watch the three movies. Normally around the end of the year or before the end of the summer, it feels like a detox. Step back from Earth and dive into Middle Earth. I love everything about these movies. EVERYTHING. If I had to point out my favorite scenes it one be during The Two Towers when Legolas skates down the stairs shooting arrows at orcs or the ICONIC line "I am no man" said by Eowyn during one of the battles in the Return of the King before killing a Nazgul. Gosh, I love these movies. I think I might go binge watch them now.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014):

I had always loved superhero movies and TV shows. The first show I ever binged watched was Smallville. But something about The Winter Soldier turned me into a super fan. I can thank this movie for my new found love of comics. It was because of this movie that I started reading them and becoming more interested in the lore and background of each character. It may be a biased opinion because Captain America is my favorite Marvel superhero, but I think Winter Soldier changed the game for me, it took the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) from entertaining movies to a passion. I love these films and the community that they have created. My dream is to go to Comic Con one day and go to a MCU panel. I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.
What movies mean a lot to you? Has a film ever changed your life or ignited something in you? Never under estimate the power of a good film. Till next time, xx.
